Texas School, also
known as the Texas School of
Professional Photography is held
every year for 6 days, usually
around the last week of May.
It is owned and operated by the
Texas Professional Photographers
Association, and is run by a
board of trustees put in
place by TPPA.
Texas School has grown to just over
1,000 photographers which makes it
the largest photographic educational
outlet in the United States.
Volunteer attendees, known as
"Wranglers", assist instructors and
serve as a liaison between the
classes and instructors. They are
vital to the success of the school
and there are usually two Wranglers
per classroom. In order to serve as
a Wrangler, candidates must have
attended Texas School at least once
previously.
Starting out at Sam Houston State
University in Huntsville Texas, it
was moved to Texas A&M University in
College Station Texas in 2000.
Texas A&M hosted Texas school until
2008 when it moved to the University
of Texas, Arlington in 2009, then to
it's current home at the
Intercontinental Hotel and
Conference
Center in Addison Texas.
Many photographers credit
their start to the instruction they
receive at Texas School, and the
list of instructors throughout the
years reads like a "Who's Who" of
professional
photography.
Texas School is known for it's fun,
laid back atmosphere and smoothly
run operations. Dress is casual, and
there are often theme parties at the
end of the class day.
A trademark of Texas School is the
free food and drink, supplied every
night of the school by the
great
sponsors of Texas School.
